Kudu (Greater)

Family: Bovidae

Genus: Tragelaphus

The Kudu or more precisely the Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is a well known African antelope and is easily recognised in the field. Greater Kudu are one of two (2) species of Kudu antelope found in Sub-Saharan Africa the other is the Lesser Kudu  (Tragelaphus imberbis) which is mainly found in the Eastern parts of the African continent.

Greater Kudu are second to only the magnificent Eland Antelope (Taurotragus oryx) in shear size, along with this large body mass the mature male Greater Kudu displays an equally impressive pair of  large spirally wound horns, unfortunately a valued prize amongst the hunting fraternity.
