The Ostrich (Struthio camelus) is one of the most recognisable birds on the planet. This large flightless bird is a native to Africa and is synonyms with the continent. Ostrich are part of the order (taxonomic rank in biology) Struthioniformes along with other flightless birds like the emu and kiwi’s. The Ostrich however is distinctive in its own appearance with its long neck and legs. Ostrich are territorial birds and males will quite easily fight for a harem of females.

Another well know trait of the Ostrich is its speed, it can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h (40 mph). Every thing is big about this bird, not only its sheer physical size being the largest living bird, the Ostrich also lays the worlds largest of eggs. The Ostrich is also well famed for its meat which is a natural healthy alternative to a nutritional diet. It is a red meat, which is high in protein, low in calories, cholesterol and fat than other red meats. The birds feathers are also bye products which are well received in the fashion industries around the world.
